VCAT is established by an Act of Parliament and is given jurisdiction by enabling enactments. We can only do what the law authorises us to do.

Our members

VCAT has almost 200 members. These are the people who hear and decide cases.

Dispute legal costs or seek compensation

We hear cases about disputed legal costs and compensation claims regarding legal services.

Complaints policy

Any member of the public or group of people (including companies or public sector agencies) can make a complaint. We are committed to certain principles when handling a complaint.

Upcoming hearings

We hold hearings by phone, video conference, or in person. Hearings are held from 9:30 am, Monday to Friday. You should check your hearing details before your hearing.

Planning disputes

Disputes about decisions made on the use, development and subdivision of land, including planning permits, objections to planning permits and planning schemes.

Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Act 2007

VCAT can review certain decisions of the Essential Services Commissioner about accreditation and energy efficiency certificates.

Owners corporation disputes

Disputes about the management and use of common property and areas within subdivided land, such as apartments or units. Formerly known as ‘body corporates’.
