Types of hearings
You may go to a hearing where we decide how your case is managed, or where a final decision is made. Find out about the different types of hearings.
Injunctions
An injunction is when VCAT makes an order for a party to do or stop doing something that may cause damage to another party.
Urgent hearings
If there is an issue in your case that needs to be urgently addressed, you can ask for an urgent hearing at VCAT.
Directions hearings
Directions hearings are where a VCAT member decides how the case should be managed and how much time it will take. The member may talk to the parties about whether they can resolve the dispute themselves.
Practice day hearings
At a practice day hearing a VCAT member makes decisions about who can be part of the case, how the case should be managed and how much time it will take.
Preliminary hearings
You may be asked to come to a preliminary hearing if we want to resolve issues that need to be decided on before the final hearing.
