VCAT hears certain matters about the conduct of councillors, reviews certain decisions made by a Councillor Conduct Panel or the Secretary to the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning, hears certain applications for relief from disqualification and hears reviews of disputes about the validity of local government elections.

Revoke an exemption

If you believe your interests may be or have been affected by the granting of an exemption under the Equal Opportunity Act 2010, you may apply to VCAT to have the exemption revoked.

Conveyancers Act 2006

VCAT can review certain decisions made under the Conveyancers Act 2006 by the Business Licensing Authority (BLA) and the Secretary of the Department of Justice and Community Safety.

Voluntary assisted dying

In Victoria, a person in the late stages of a terminal illness can request access to medication that will end their life at a time they choose. This is called voluntary assisted dying.

Exemptions

VCAT can grant temporary exemptions from the provisions of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010 in appropriate circumstances.

Second-Hand Dealers and Pawnbrokers Act 1989 (review and inquiries)

VCAT can review certain decisions made by the Business Licensing Authority under the Second-Hand Dealers and Pawnbrokers Act 1989. Under this Act, we can also conduct inquiries.

Motor Car Traders Act 1986

VCAT has power to conduct a number of different proceedings under the Motor Car Traders Act 1986.

Bus Safety Act 2009

VCAT can review certain decisions of the Safety Director under the Bus Safety Act 2009.

Review of an advance care directive

We can review the validity, cancellation, amendment or meaning of an advance care directive.
