VCAT preparing for new Melbourne CBD venue to improve access to justice
VCAT is transforming its service delivery with a new Melbourne CBD venue set to open at 308 La Trobe Street in 2026.

The Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT)is transforming its service delivery with a new Melbourne CBD venue set to open at 308 La Trobe Street in 2026. Delivered in collaboration with Court Services Victoria, the new venue will bring together VCAT’s Melbourne CBD hearing and mediation services under one roof, marking a significant upgrade to Victoria's tribunal infrastructure.
VCAT President, Justice Ted Woodward highlighted the strategic importance of the new facility in improving access to VCAT services “The new venue at 308 La Trobe Street will bring VCAT's two CBD venues together into one central location, close to public transport links, providing a safe and inclusive place that meets the needs of all Victorians".
The new venue is designed to make the VCAT process more accessible and efficient, with new, innovative digital and in-person hearing facilities supporting service users to have their matter heard in a way that provides safety and comfort.
Features include:
- Modern, comfortable hearing and mediation rooms and waiting areas.
- Advanced digital hearing and mediation capabilities and remote witness facilities
- Dedicated spaces and secure facilities for people who want additional support
- Enhanced accessibility for all service users
Integrated legal and support services including Victoria Legal Aid, State Trustees, and the Office of the Public Advocate
VCAT CEO, Fiona Chamberlain, says the new venue will equip VCAT to meet the diverse and changing needs of the community. “VCAT service users are at the heart of what we do. The building has been designed in consultation with service users and staff to help us deliver an accessible, welcoming and comfortable space for people accessing our services and support.”
While the new facility brings together Melbourne CBD facilities, VCAT’s community-based venues at Bendigo, Bundoora, Frankston and Oakleigh will continue to serve their local communities.
